Now I know.

If Lokun Chu = Hospital,
Lokun = Doctor,
and Chu = House,
then Hospital = Doctor's House.

No wonder he stays there most of the time.

Konichiwa! Watashi wa Irene desu!

Ryo called me while I was napping this afternoon. He asked me if I would like to join him and his Japanese friend for dinner. Initially, I turned down his invitation because I was tired. After I ended the call with him, I realised I couldn't sleep anymore, so I called him back and said I will go. I am so fickle. =P

I quickly took a bath, changed and rushed out of the house. I reached Clarke Quay at 730PM but only found China One at 8PM because Ryo told me it is beside TCC when it is actually on top of TCC. -__-

The boys played Pool while I drink and cheer for them. We had a good time chatting and playing together. These Japanese boys are really fun to hang out with. =)

Ryo wanted to bring me to a Japanese restaurant at Central mall to eat delicious Japanese noodles but it was already closed by the time we reached there. We ended up eating at Manhattan Fish Market instead because it was the only restaurant that was still open at 10PM.

Something funny happened while we were having supper. Ryo's friend, Teppei can't speak the English language very well and I can't speak a lot of Japanese. Thinking that I do not understand any Japanese at all, Teppei said that I am kawaii. I thanked him for his compliment and he got a raw shock. He became very shy after that. HaHa~!

I went home after supper while the guys went on to St. James. I can't wait to meet up with them again soon. =)

My bad.

I have been craving for him since we said our goodnights that evening. Serves me right for turning down his invitation. It was one of the rare occasions when he is free and so full of vigour. I ought to slap myself.

Not my day.

Lost a fairly big deal to a rival bank today because we could not make a better offer to the customer. Didn't get enough support from Wealth Management. If not for the vouchers, I would have closed the deal already.

Supposed to meet Ben from Wealth Management for a drink this evening but I was so disappointed with his department today that I decided not to go in the end. Not that he has any say in the matter but I will probably end up pouring all my grouses out to him if I do see him tonight. I shall spare him from the flood of complaints.

It was a bad day for me today. As if losing the deal was not bad enough, my phone had to fail me today. It was working perfectly fine until this morning when my customer called. The touchscreen was unable to respond to my touch. It is only 2 months old! Sigh~! I will have to send it to the service centre for them to inspect the phone and do the necessary tomorrow.

The branch will be extending its opening hours by 1 hour starting next Tuesday for one week due to the latest Growth Dividend payout. All of us will have to report for work at 730AM. So early!!! I don't feel like going to work anymore... ...

My horrible experience with New York Skin Solutions.

Did five hours of OT today but I won't be paid for that. Had to meet a client after opening hours to sign some documents. By the time I was done with all the paperwork, I was already late for tuition. Since tuition was cancelled, I decided to have lunch with my client to build a better relationship with her and her daughter.

Went to New York Skin Solutions with Hui Jun after the lunch date with my client. Our appointment was at 5PM but we only got to do our facial at 730PM. They made us wait for two and a half hours! Before that, they tried to make us sign a package, which Hui Jun did. I was there for a trial which was supposed to help me to decide if their service and products are suitable for me and if it is worthwhile signing a package with them. It makes no sense for me to sign up for anything even before I try their service.

After the facial, I decided that it just wasn't worth the price. Hui Jun mentioned her difficulties as a student so the consultant quoted us student price: $300 for 5 sessions. It is even cheaper than the previous package I had with Body Contours.

Here are some of the reasons why I think it is not worth it though it is so cheap:
  1. They stressed that they do customized treatment facials but they used the same products on both Hui Jun and I.
  2. Other than the extraction, which was extremely painful, I can do everything else she did on my own at home.
  3. They always portray themselves as a high end salon but there was no private room. FYI, I always had a private room when my facial was done at Body Contours.
  4. I feel that the therapists were not professional at all.

When I rejected their offer, they kept asking me if it was out of my budget. How can a banker not be able to afford something even a student can afford? I thought that was a humiliation to me and my bank.

I hold no grudges against them. These are just my honest and humble opinions. Those who do not believe me are encouraged to try it themselves.

Another training session.

Was back at HQ for training today. Got a SMS from my boss to inform me that a new tranche of SD is launched today. Out of courtesy, I replied to thank him for the information. He replied shortly after I did, telling me to pay attention in class because he has a loan for me to key into the system tomorrow. Stressed. =X

Had a great time in class today. Having been separated for a month, we had a lot of catching up to do. Had our lunch at Mac's today. In case you do not know this yet, they are having a promotion. On weekdays, between 12PM to 2PM, you can buy EVMs at a special price starting from $4.50.

Samantha, Benny, Kok Sen, Geraldine and I went to collect our uniform at Dick's Beaumonde after training. While trying our uniform, Samantha commented that my jacket fits me nicely while hers was a bit loose. The tailor overheard us and said that it is because I am fuller on top. He regretted saying that almost immediately after doing so and apologised. HaHa~!

Had dinner together at Pepper Lunch after that. Wanted to watch Death Race after dinner but Lido didn't have it. Cineleisure was still showing the movie but the only time slot they have is at 2AM. Too late for us so we ended up eating dessert at Xin Wang instead. It was only 8PM when we were done with desserts but all of us were so tired that we had to disperse from there.

Geraldine and I @ Pepper Lunch.

I think the next time we will meet again will be in October at our annual dinner and dance. Sad. =(

我好想你啊!

很晚了,但是我却睡不着,因为我满脑子想的都是你。想着你对我说的话,想着你为我做的事,想念你。怎么办?我好想你啊!

Life at Taman Jurong.

I am based in Jurong (Taman Jurong) branch with effect from 31 July 2008. Closed my first deal on 2 August. It was considered a small deal but I was proud of myself. =D

Went back to Centre for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training on 6 August. When I went back to the branch the next day and called one of my clients to arrange for him to come and sign the documents, he told me that he went down to Jurong branch to look for me the day before but my colleague just said that I am on course and closed the deal on the spot without informing me of my customer's arrival, which she was supposed to do. Lesson learnt. A very expensive one. SiGh~! Managed to close 2 more deals early this week though. A good way to start the week. Will be meeting two big ticket clients over the weekends. Let's hope I close both deals. *PrAyS*

Received my self-inking stamp last week and business cards today. Feels more like a banker now. =)

Met up with the other MTs on National Day. Belinda, Kok Sen, Benny, Xing Yin, Cecilia and Geraldine (together with her sweetheart, Ling Woon) came. We had our lunch at Aston's, The Cathay. It took them a very long time to prepare the food and we were all famished by the time the food came. Mine took the longest time to come. I was so hungry when they served me that I gobbled it all up in no time.

Xing Yin had to leave early because it was her grandfather's birthday. Geraldine and Ling Woon left us after lunch too because they wanna go pak tor. 重色轻友! =/ Kok Sen, Benny, Cecilia and I went to Minds Cafe after lunch to play board games. Had loads of fun playing the games there. My favourite game was 'Ticket To Ride'. It is quite challenging and requires the use of lotsa strategies in order to win the game. I enjoy playing it so much that I wanna buy it. HeE~! Went to eat tau hway at Rochor Beancurd after 3 hours of board games.

The guys went home after the tau hway session while Cecilia and I went grocery shopping at Carrefour before going home.

That might be the last time I see all of them together. As some of them are deployed to Sunday banking branches, it will be hard to arrange a gathering on weekends. Kinda miss them now. =(

Was talking to ZhiFa the other day and he was telling me that he intends to get a car because of his inconvenient work location. This tempted me to get one too. My branch is also not very convenient for me to go and I hate squeezing with the factory workers on the bus every morning. We were considering the Picanto because it is the most economical car available in the market now. He was saying that the Picanto is not fuel efficient, so we thought of getting a Honda Jazz, which is well known for its efficient fuel consumption. I checked the prices on the Honda website and realised that the Jazz (1.4) is more expensive than the City (1.5). As our conversation progresses, our ideal ride became bigger and bigger. HaHa~! Anyway, I needa save up for the downpayment first. Making good progress so far. =)

First week at the bank.

Started work at the bank on 1 July. Got to know lotsa fun-loving people at the induction programme. The induction programme was very informative and I got a better idea of what the various departments do. My favourite speaker was Vasu Menon from Wealth Management. His speech was very interesting and all of us had a good laugh. =)

There was a dialogue session with the department heads at The Executive Club on the 33 storey. The view at the club was breathtakingly beautiful and the food was fantastically delicious. It was a rare chance to see all the department heads all in one place at the same time. Was quite worried about the dialogue session initially because I though the heads are serious and terrifying but it turned out that they are actually very interesting and humourous people. All went well and at the end of the day, I was really glad that I have joined this bank. The culture here is totally different from the other local bank I have worked at previously. I feel so fortunate to have made the right decision to leave my previous employment and to join this bank now. =)

Linda, Cecilia, Geraldine and I at The Executive Club.

The 3 days orientation programme started on day two. It was an unforgettable experience. It was the first time I participated in an orientation programme with so many mature new hires and had so much fun with them. Though many of them are already in their thirties and for some, even forties, they are more energetic than young management trainees like us. I must say that I was very impressed with their initiative and enthusiasm.

Attended a grooming course conducted by Shiseido on Saturday morning. Learnt a lot about skincare and make up at the course. We had truck loads of fun experimenting with the cosmetics provided. I didn't look much different from my usual self after the DIY makeover. The only part of my face that looked different was my eyebrows which was drawn for me by the make up artist. Not too satisfied with it though.

Geraldine and I after the grooming course.

We were all given a $10 voucher each to spend at the Shiseido counter in Tangs Orchard so all of us made our way to Tangs after the grooming course ended and ended up buying bagful of Shiseido products. =/

Mrs Chong called me while I was shopping at Tangs. I had previously informed her that I am retiring from the tuition industry and had advised her to get Shermaine a new tutor. She had called to request that I continue to teach her daughter because she has learnt a lot from me. Being a soft-hearted person, I gave in and said OK. =\

Went to meet Joanne at the travel agent after paying for my purchases. She bought a one-way ticket to Perth this time and that means I won't be seeing her for quite a while. =(

We went to Sun Lik to buy some baking ingredients after leaving Ngee Ann City. Joanne parked her car at the basement carpark opposite the shop while we were there. When we left the place, we were shocked by the horrendously expensive parking fee - $5++ for less than half an hour! Better think thrice before you get that dream car of yours.

Joanne is intending to get a new laptop so we went to Funan to check out the prices and technical specifications of the various laptops. After visiting a few shops, she finally found what she wanted. She didn't buy it there and then though.

To avoid expensive parking at Raffles City, we decided to walk there from Funan. Robinsons was having a sale and as usual, we bought lots of lingerie and sleepwear. =P Had our dinner at Cafe Cartel. Took a while to finish my food because of the enormous serving. By the time I finished my food, it was almost 9PM.

Joanne gave me a lift home and I was very grateful to her for that because my feet were sore from all the walking in the day. We had a bit of problem getting to my place though. Both of us were unfamiliar with the roads and almost lost our way. She kept asking me where should she turn and exit but I wasn't too sure as well. Fortunately, we managed to reach my house in the end and she got home safely.

Tomorrow is Monday again. Time to go back to work. I am having Monday blues now though it is a Sunday. I am excited about the new things that I will learn at work but I am still not too used to waking up so early in the morning. SiGh~!

Awas!

Was watching rachaelray this afternoon and a book titled "The Dangerous Book for Boys" was featured in the show. The book was written to encourage boys to get out of the house and try some outdoor activities instead of playing computer games at home all day long. It covers around eighty topics, including how to build a treehouse, grow a crystal, or tell direction with a watch. Also included are famous quotes, stories, battles, and phrases that "every boy should know." I think that it is an interesting book and if I have a son, I will definitely buy him one though he may injure himself while trying something from the book. I think injuries are part and parcel of childhood and parents should not overreact when their child falls down or knocks into something by accident. He won't learn to walk properly if he doesn't fall down right? Just like he won't appreciate riches if he has not been poor before. But well, I still do not have children of my own yet, so I guess it is still too early to say all these. Who knows, I may change my mind about what I have just said 5 years down the road when I become a mother myself. =P

Dale SMS-ed me last night and told me that the 8 July batch will start on 15 July instead. I was hoping that my first day will be postponed too then Sharon SMS-ed me this afternoon to remind me to report to work on time on 1 July and dashed my hopes. That will make me two weeks their senior. =( Feeling a bit 心理不平衡 now. =X

Been lazing around the house doing nothing all day except for tuitions in the evening for the entire week but I still feel tired. Gary had been saying that I had been working myself too hard when there was no need for me to do so and I think he is right. I had been working so hard and made myself so tired that no amount of rest will be able to relieve my fatigue completely and I brought this upon myself. With only three more days to go before I NEED to start working hard again, I think it is a bit too late that I only realise this now. SiGh~! Please pray for me. -_-

The much anticipated (super short) break has finally arrived!

Cancelled 3 out of 4 tuition yesterday because I felt sick when I woke up in the morning. Felt better in the late afternoon so I went to teach Mark in the evening.

Passed HI this morning. All four certificates are in the bag now. The much anticipated (super short) break has finally arrived! Shall devote my precious time to make myself pretty. Am going to do that by sleeping early and masking everyday. =) Just tried the Neutrogena T&U mask and found it really good at controlling facial sebum. The oil-free effect lasted for quite awhile. Love it!

Shopped around Suntec City with mommy after my HI examination. Bought a few towels from Aussino and a tunic from Mango. Bought a lot of clothes from Mango recently because of their end-of-season sale. Spent too much money there. Feeling a bit poor and damn guilty now. =X

Training will start on 1 July. Finally it is coming. Looking forward to that. =)

It just doesn't feel the same anymore...

Took the CMFAS M8 examination yesterday morning. Met Dale and Hui Jun who were also taking the same examination at the same time slot. We were among the first few to come out of the examination room and all three of us passed. Isn't that amazing? =D Went to have coffee together at Starbucks after the examination and chatted for a while.

Was late for tuition because of the coffee break. Didn't really wanna go for tuition but went anyway because of the money. I hate myself now. =/

Marcus asked me out for a movie last night. The way he asked me was exactly the same way he did one year ago but when we were out that night, the feeling was totally different. Though we both tried to be natural with each other, it still felt awkward to go out with him again. I think I was the one who was being very formal with him and thus caused the awkwardness. I spoilt the whole evening. SiGh~!

Shan got a new tutor to replace me. The reason being him not able to concentrate because I am too pretty. I really don't know what to say when he told me that. Is it wrong to be pretty? =/

Went out with Wei Qi today. We went to the Kwan Yin Temple in Bugis to pray first. Took a bus from Bugis Street to East Coast Road after that. Went to Aston's for dinner. There was already a long queue outside the shop when we arrived. Took a while for us to get a seat there and for them to serve us our dinner but we had a satisfying dinner so it was all worth it. =)

Walked to Parkway Parade after dinner. Went to the Mango end-of-season sale at Isetan and bought two tops. Security was very tight there. All the shoppers need to have their bags fastened with fasteners before they could enter. Fasteners would only be cut when payment was made or when the shoppers exit the area.

Gave Wei Qi a tour of the shopping centre after leaving Isetan because it was the first time she was there. Had ice-cream at Scoopz before we left. Scoopz's ice-cream is delicious! Still my favourite after all these years. Yummy! =P

I have four tuition scheduled tomorrow. I am tired. I wanna quit tuition. SiGh~!

Life after final year examinations...

Had dinner with my ex-colleagues from UOB at Wheelock Place's NYDC last Wednesday evening. The gathering was amazingly fun though there were only six of us (Kenny, Ian, Isaac, Wei Lin, Eugena and I). Dinner started at about 730PM and ended at around 1030PM. After dinner, we took a leisurely walk to Somerset together before parting ways.

Sister Kenny...

...and his gay partner, sister Ian. Oops! =P

Sadako!!!

Nahz. Its Eugena and Kenny. Smile!

Ian, Wei Lin and I.

The guys...

...and the girls. =D

Where is Ian?

Oh, there he is. =)

Miss all the them. =( Hope to see everyone soon.

Took the CMFAS M5 examination at SCI last Friday morning. I woke up at 4AM to study for the examination, thinking that it was scheduled at 11AM. I only realised that the examination was to start at 9AM when I was checking my organiser for the day's appointments at 730AM. When I realised that fact, I quickly packed up and rushed out of the house. Managed to finish all the questions in an hour and passed. Thank god.

Had dinner with Jonathan Sim at Velocity's Fish & Co in the evening. He shared some of his experiences as an accountant with me and we had a good time laughing at each other. After dinner, we went to Spinelli for a cuppa coffee and continued our nonsense there. Left the place at around 11PM.

Went shopping in town after teaching Shan in Balestier last Saturday. Bought a total of 3 pairs of heels from Far East Plaza, a bag from Robinsons and two tubes of hand cream from Marks & Spencer. It was super crowded at Robinsons because it was having a sale; GST was absorbed for all the items sold at the departmental store.

Yesterday was Shu Yan's wedding day. Supposed to tutor two students in Marsiling but I postponed them because I was too lazy to travel from Yishun to Marsiling after lunch. =X Stayed around at 二伯's house for a while before going home to prepare myself for the wedding dinner in the evening. The wedding banquet was held at the Antica ballroom in Orchard Parade Hotel.

Sis and I.

Mommy and her two pretty daughters. =P

Shu Yan and her husband, Chee Leong cutting their wedding cake.

Champagne and bubbles!

The toasting ceremony.

Group photo with the bride and groom.

Stayed at home to study for the CMFAS M9 examination the whole afternoon. Was a bit late for the examination this evening. It just begun when I reached SCI. Fortunately I managed to finish the examination within the given time frame and passed. Thank god again.

Saw Vinci selling credit cards for ABN AMRO at Suntec City on my way to SCI. I doubt he saw me though. Didn't get to say Hi to him 'coz I was running late for the examination. Saw my cousin, Shun Hui at Suntec City after the examination too. He was with a girl. Scandalous. =P

Paid the credit card bill just now and realised that my account balance is running low. I better stop shopping before I get my pay next month. SiGh~!

小女人的日记

Finally got to go out with Gary last Saturday. The plan had already been kept in view for a few months and I was over the moon when he told me on Friday night that we can finally have dinner together. ^^

He took me to the Sushi Tei at Paragon for dinner. The restaurant was full when we went there so he left his contact number for the staff to call us when there are available seats while we go shopping.

Went Sony to look around. We were looking at camcorders when the salesman came. The blur salesman mistook us to be a married couple and recommended a camcorder with night vision so that we can bring our kids to the night safari. He even recommended an LCD TV for our bedroom. -_- Gary and I didn't correct him though. =X

Then we went to Marks & Spencer. Nothing much to buy there so we left after rounding the store once.

Went to Toys'R'us after that because he wanted to look at the helicopters. While we were looking at the helicopters, the staff at Sushi Tei called to say that the seats are ready. The poor boy was famished because he missed his lunch and so we hurried to the restaurant.

He wanted to order sea urchin sashimi but changed his mind when he realised that I have not tried the "delicacy" before and do not dare to eat it. I wanted him to order anything that he wanted to eat but he said that he will not enjoy eating the sea urchin sashimi if I do not like it. Awww, so sweet! He really wanted me to try the sea urchin so he changed the order to two sea urchin sushi so that we each can have one. Other than the sea urchin sushi, we ordered a plate of gyozas, a BBQ squid, an ebi don for him and a bowl of curry udon for me. It took me a while to muster up enough courage to try the sea urchin sushi. He looked at me as I tasted the sea urchin and knew immediately from my expression that I don't really like it. He asked if I was OK and I said I am not worried because if anything happened to me, he could save me. =P The bowl of curry udon was enormous and I couldn't finish everything. In the end, I had to waste food. =X

Wanted to catch a movie at Cineleisure after dinner but all the shows except those showing after midnight were sold out. He was uber sweet to offer to watch a movie with me at Causeway Point if I really wanted to watch a movie so that it would be easier for me to go home after the show. I know he had to work the next day and I didn't want to keep him up with me, so I said there were none I really wanna watch.

Instead of watching a movie, we went back to Paragon to have coffee at Coffee Bean. We had a good time talking and joking with each other there. He was really humourous and I really enjoyed talking to him. The conversation would have gone on forever if we didn't have to go home. =) That was the first time he concentrated on talking to me and not reading his medical journals at the same time. =/

After the coffee break, I asked if he needed to go home and rest since he had to work the next day. I was surprised that he wanted to continue walking with me and said he was OK because he had plenty of time to rest the next day. So, we took a walk together until we reach Tangs, where we realised that there wasn't much to see at that time. He asked if I want to go home early and I said OK. As I was approaching the escalator, he suddenly remembered that Borders only closes at midnight on weekends and suggested that we go and walk around there. I agreed and we went to Borders. He is a big fan of Jamie Oliver and we spent some time browsing his cookbooks. It is hard to find a guy who enjoys cooking as much as Gary does nowadays. He is one rare gem. =) Then we went to the Children's section and reminisced our childhood memories. =)

It was getting late and he said we need to go. He took the train with me to Toa Payoh where we said our goodbyes and I continued my journey home from there. I did not expect him to take the train with me because it is more convenient for him to go home by a direct bus service from Orchard Road than to take the train and transfer bus. I was touched. =) He said he will see me again but I wonder when will that be. =/

Just had my last paper, Auditing this morning and that marks the end of my final year examinations. However, that was not the end of the day for me.

Went straight to Raffles Place after the paper. Wanted to eat at Five by Aromas where Jason works at but it was super crowded and I had no time to wait for a seat there, so I just said Hi to Jason and left. Went to the hawker centre at Market Street to eat nasi lemak instead. It was very difficult to find a place to sit at the hawker centre too. Almost all the empty seats were taken up by packets of tissue paper. Though I have heard of people "chopping" seats using packets of tissue paper but it was the first time I saw people doing that.

Tutorial started at 2PM. Mingled with the other personal financial consultants and found out that I am the only one in the group to report on 1 July while the rest of them only need to report on 8 July. There is only one other person in the tutorial group who will report to work on the same day as I do but she is a mobile banking executive. SiGh~! Why like that?!

Went to Suntec City after the tutorial to meet Daphne for dinner. We had our dinner at KFC, where we met Andy. He joined us for dinner and left shortly after he had finished his food. After dinner, Daphne and I went to Carrefour to buy a hair dryer.

On the way to City Hall MRT station, the blister on my foot burst and I was bleeding. I endured the pain and continued to walk till I reach the MRT station. Took a train to Marina Bay so that I can get a seat on the train and managed to limp home in my killer heels.

It was raining when I reached Admiralty. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to bring an umbrella with me when I came out this morning, so I called home and asked mommy to come and pick me up from the MRT station. However, she said that it was not raining and asked me to come home myself, which I did. Needless to say, I was drenched. =/

Will be meeting the dudes and dudess from UOB tomorrow. Haven't seen all of them in a while. Looking forward to seeing them again. =)

It had been a tiring day for me today. I need to rest. Goodnight!

Reclusion notice.

To my dear friends,

I will be in reclusion for the next two months to prepare for my upcoming examinations. Please accept my apologies for my inability to meet up with you girls for such a long period of time. I know you will miss me but rest assured that I will definitely find time to meet all of you after I clear all the papers. ;) Let us use this period of time to prepare for GSS, OK? Till then!

With love,
Irene

The day I landed my first permanent full-time job.

Went for an interview at one of the three local banks today. The interview wasn't easy but I am glad I made it through and was made an offer on the spot. The offer was considered not bad so I decided to accept it. They had the contract prepared for me on the same day and I had signed it. Will start work on 1 July 2008 but before that happens, I have to make sure that I pass my final year examinations without glitch and obtain another four certificates from SCI. Time to hit the books again. =/

The Other Boleyn Girl.

Met Daphne to watch The Other Boleyn Girl with her today. I was very punctual today but she was late because her lecture ended late. While waiting for her to come, I had my lunch at Quickbite which is located at the basement of The Cathay. I had an original lover value meal ($4.30) which is rice with 4 original yakitori sticks. It was very filling but nothing else to rave about.

When Daphne arrived, we went to MacDonald's at Plaza Singapura for her lunch. After she was done, we shopped around Plaza Singapura for a while before going back to The Cathay to watch the movie. As we had just been to Plaza Singapura last Thursday, nothing caught our eye and we did not get anything.

It was the first time I watched a movie at The Cathay and I really liked the place. The Other Boleyn Girl was a great movie and I highly recommend all girls to watch it. I agree with what Anne Boleyn said about love and guys to a large extent though I do not totally agree with her. Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johannsson really portrayed the characters (Anne and Mary Boleyn respectively) very well. The movie was easy to follow and it was not difficult to understand.

After the movie, we took a train to City Hall. We dropped by Agnes B at Raffles City first to collect Daphne's belt. Then we walked to Marina Square via Citylink Mall. We passed by Surfer Girl on the way and went in to take a look. I bought a white skirt and the retail assistant gave me a Surfer Girl notebook which is quite cute. We went straight to Diva when we reached Marina Square. At Diva, I bought a pearl head band and a pair of big gold coloured earrings. From Marina Square, we walked to Carrefour at Suntec City because Daphne wanted to buy ice-cream. She even brought a cooler bag to prevent the ice-cream from melting before she reaches home! After we have paid for our purchases at Carrefour, we went to Puteri Mas to buy durian puffs. The durian puffs from Puteri Mas are delicious and I love them! Daphne and I went separate ways after that.

On the way home, two Indian men who sat opposite me kept looking at me and I don't know what they were looking at! Not only were they looking at me, they were talking about me 'coz they kept pointing their fingers at me while they talked! They alighted at the same stop as I did and I had to run home again to prevent them from following me. Why am I always running away from perverts?

Don't blame us for staying up late. We are forced to.

I have a problem with sleeping early and I know why now.

I think all schools should read this and do something about it.

Why... yawn... the school day starts too early
CNA 02 April 2008 0812 hrs

PARIS: Scientists have confirmed what parents of teenagers have always suspected: adolescents are out of sync with the rest of the world.

Most teens probably don't get enough sleep and suffer in their school work because their internal clocks make them night owls, according to a study published Tuesday.

Researchers in Australia showed the average teenager misses more than an hour of sleep each night and is forced to wake up 2.5 hours earlier than his or her natural rhythms would dictate.

High school students with a late-night "circadian preference," as the biologically-driven cycle is called, reported doing more poorly in school, and feeling more frequently depressed and unhappy.

"For all people, there is a genetic disposition to being either a 'morning lark' or a 'night owl'," explained lead author Suzanne Warner, a professor at Swineburne University of Technology in Hawthorn, Australia.

But when hormonal changes kick in at the start of adolescence, she told AFP, young people start to stay up later and -- given the chance -- wake up later too.

Most of the students in the study were such "evening persons," she said.

"Teenagers find that they are most alert in the evening and do not feel sleepy until later, and so find it difficult to get enough sleep during school term," she added.

The key is melatonin, a hormone that signals to the body that it needs rest and sleep. In teenagers entering puberty, it is released later and later in the evening.

There are also environmental factors that contribute to the problem, she said.

Ambient light tends to minimize the amount of melatonin secreted, and the constant use of computers could keep adolescents up past their natural bedtime, even after lights are turned out. "

One thing parents can do is to lower the lights, and switch off computers and televisions an hour before bedtime," advised Warner.

In the study, Warner and two colleagues compared the sleep patterns of 310 students during a school term and while they were on holiday.

Whereas the adolescents slept more than nine hours during the school breaks, they averaged less than eight hours when hitting the books.

"Night owls" were more likely than "morning larks" to have negative attitudes about themselves, to express feelings of unhappiness and voice irritation with their classmates, according to the study, published in the Netherlands-based Journal of Adolescence.

They also complained of low energy and "impaired" daytime functioning.

"For classes that start before 9:00 a.m., we have to question whether the students are going to be alert and able to learn," said Warner.

Previous research has shown that nine hours is the optimal amount of sleep time for teenagers.

Circadian clocks are found in organisms ranging from bacteria to human beings, and impose a roughly 24-hour schedule on our activities, such as sleeping and eating.

The mechanism controlling these rhythms is found in individual neurons located in the suprachiasmatic nuclei inside the brain. Scientists have identified at least one gene that determines whether one's "clock" will be naturally set for early or late rising.

The same process is involved in jet lag, Warner points out. "You could say that a lot of young people feel quite jetlagged coming into the school term -- it is a very similar feeling," she said.

Parents should rethink a tendency to let adolescents set their own bedtime schedule, she added. - AFP/ac

Eng Chok's and Hui Jun's birthday party at SAF Changi Chalet

Attended Eng Chok's and Hui Jun's birthday party at SAF Changi Chalet on 5 April, Saturday.

Most of the invited guests are their paternal relatives who are also daddy's friends. Though they are daddy's friends, I do not know most of them. As a result, I was mistaken to be the birthday girl and I had to keep telling people that I am my daddy's daughter to clarify. -_-

Hui Jun's cousin, Hui Zhen came to talk to me too. I had been to her house when I was a child and she was really nice to me. I remembered that she taught me how to colour a picture using different tones of the same colour to give the picture a lighting effect and we had a good time colouring pictures together. She even gave me a colouring book when I was leaving. I was surprised that she still remembers me though it had been many years since I last saw her.

We were at the party till about 1130PM because 二姨 and her family only came at 11PM.

Sis and I feasting on the buffet spread.

Nothing better to do so we take photos. LOL.

The family photo.

I had to teach 4 students the next day and by the time I was done, I was dead beat. I started with Andy in Marsiling at 11AM, then it was Serena in Yishun at 2PM, Benjamin 430PM and finally Shan in Balestier at 630PM. I only managed to eat a burger for dinner at 9PM. It was a marathon but I was glad I managed to finish the race at the end of the day.

Though tired, I was happy because Andy's mother called me in the morning to inform me that she will pay the agent's commission for me and I get to keep the whole month's tuition fees. I am really grateful to her for that because that means that I have more money to spend on my favourite hobby, shopping!

Went shopping alone in town yesterday. Bought a baby pink halter polo top at Mango and a pair of bright orange shorts at Forever 21.

The retail therapy trip really made me feel better. It had been too long. The shopping queen in me is making a comeback!

Light = end of tunnel? I beg to differ.

I had seen a light at the "end" of the tunnel many times but each time I reach the source of the light, it turned out to be just a light coming from a torch and not the light I had expected which is supposed to come from the exit of the tunnel. All these false hopes are driving me crazy.

When will I ever get out of this damn tunnel?

P.S. This post is NOT referring to my relationship with my love interest.

理财有方

I was watching 理财有方 on Channel 8 just now and 郭亮 interviewed a Malay family whose monthly household income was only $700. The family had 6 children but they spent only $10 for three days of food for the whole family ($100/month), $200 for other household expenses, $100 to support the husband's smoking habit and still managed to save $300 a month!

Tips from the family:
  1. List out all expenses
  2. Plan
  3. No luxury items (these include tidbits and eating out)
I was impressed. They are my 偶像 now. I must learn from them!

Girls day out.

Met up with Daphne in town this afternoon. We went to the Topshop at Wisma Atria first 'coz Daphne got a Topshop gift card from her friends and it is going to expire soon. Then we went up to food republic to have our lunch. I ate the 剪刀剪 Hainanese curry rice. I ordered a set meal (set A, $3.80) which has a small piece of pork cutlet, some cabbages, 扣肉, a fried egg and some rice. The curry was not too spicy but it was still delicious. I like their chilli paste best. Curry leaves were added to the chilli paste and it has a very nice curry taste. I find it very special. It is so nice I feel like eating it again. =P

Then, we went to Starbucks at Wheelock Place to eat muffins because Daphne was still not full. She showed me photographs and videos of her nephew. The lucky kid wears branded goods from top to bottom. Kids nowadays are so fotunate. When I was a little girl, my clothes were mostly bought from the small shops at the marketplace because mommy thinks that there is no point in buying expensive and good quality apparels since kids grow out of their clothes very fast. I agree with her on that but I will still buy the cute little adidas sport shoes for my baby when I have one. HeE~!

Shopped around Isetan Scotts and Tangs after that but didn't find anything we like. Went to Takashimaya and I bought a black nightdress.

Daphne needed to get a new strap for her Swatch so we went to the Swatch outlet at Heeren. While she was choosing a strap, I spotted Adam Chan in the shop. After a while, Daphne spotted him too. She came to me and commented that Adam Chan is not good looking in person and he was just behind us when she said that! I hope he didn't hear us. =X

After Daphne got the new strap fixed to her watch, we went to Centrepoint. While we were shopping at GAP, she suddenly realised that she had left her bottle at the Swatch outlet. We went back to the outlet but the sales assistant had thrown the bottle away. I thought that was bad service. They should at least keep the bottle in the shop for at least a day before regarding it as unwanted then throw it away. Daphne was so mad with the sales assistant that she thanked him sarcarstically for throwing her bottle away. We had to go to Plaza Singapura to buy a similar bottle from Daiso.

After getting the bottle, it was time for us to go. We will be meeting again next Tuesday to watch the local production, The Leap Years. It was so sweet of her to offer to watch it with me again though she has already watched it before. Love my sweet girl friend to bits!

Lunch with Daphne at Miss Clarity Cafe.

Lunched with Daphne at Miss Clarity Cafe this afternoon. The food there is really cheap and good! I ordered a Fish Cordon Bleu set lunch and Daphne had a Seafood Vongole set lunch. Their set lunch comes with a soup/salad, a drink and a dessert. The soup of the day was cream of corn with chicken shreds and the dessert of the day was strawberry ice-cream. Wanna guess how much is each set lunch? Alright, I can hear Jia Rui say no. The answer is... $9.80 NETT per set!

My Fish Cordon Bleu. Yummy!!!

The portion is really big. Very filling. Though it is only $9.80 a set, quality is not compromised. Inside the crispy breadcrumbs are pieces of fresh succulent fish fillet. Sandwiched between the breaded fish fillet is a piece of ham and melted cheese. Oh, I love the cheese! =P

The service there is not that good though. The waitress had a black face when we went this afternoon and she was slow in taking our orders. Both Daphne and I think that the waitress wasn't in a good mood because there was no service charge. HaHa~!

Will definitely go back there again for the delicious food. Hopefully I can still go there again with Daphne, just like today. I am happy to be able to give her advices which she finds to be useful.

Daphne, thank you for asking me out today. Though it was only a short lunch meet, I really enjoyed myself. Hope to see you again soon. Love you always! =)

Think before you act.

Once there lived an old priest in a small village. The old priest had a cat. The cat roamed around freely in the church. The old priest found the cat to be a distraction to the followers so he used a string to tie it up whenever there was a service. Then, the old priest died of old age, but people continued to tie his cat up whenever there was a service. Then, the cat died, but people found another cat and tied it up whenever there was a service. They thought that tying a cat up during a service is a ceremonial practice.

Sometimes, people just follow blindly without understanding the rationale behind an action. We ought to think before we act, else we may end up doing something that is totally unneccesary.

You will be missed!

My dear friend, Joanne Sam is going back to Perth tomorrow for honours year. She will be reunited with her beloved boyfriend but she is leaving me. SoBz~! I am happy for her though. She is going back to a place where she will feel loved and treasured. Thus, I give her my blessings and wish her happiness always.

Joanne, I will miss you when you are back in Perth. Miss all the good times we had while you were in Singapore. We have grown so much closer this holiday that I really can't bear to let you leave again so soon. But alas, all good things must come to an end. I only hope for you to come back home again soon. I'll look forward to your next homecoming so that we can spend quality time together again. Till then!

When will we have another outing like this again?
